The Great Outdoors

Forest School and outdoor play

What is Forest School?

Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that promotes engagement with nature and encourages children to assess risk and develop self-confidence and independence. Dedicated Forest School sessions are run by our two qualified Forest School Teachers.

Children will be:

Exploring the woods, navigating obstacles, building structures and dens

using simple tools to make our own toys and games

reading stories and taking part in activities to help us learn about the seasons, nature, and how to look after our environment

using our imagination and  creativity

developing abilities in assessing risks and undertaking manageable tasks

There's no such thing as bad weather!

Outdoor exploration

We have our own garden

We have our own garden where children can play freely using natural resources, water, sand, pebbles, etc. Every year we grow flowers as well as a variety of vegetables, tend them and watch them grow. We have a small garden pond and hope the frogs return to spawn.

Our local community provides a wealth of opportunities for outdoor exploration with trips to the park; Oldbury Woods, farmland adjacent our own woodland to see the horses and pigs as well as strawberry picking.

The only weather that will stop our outdoor play are strong winds, but this is only because we want to keep safe!
